Steam Trains
Hi Hi, soooo... i like trains! specifically steam trains, normal trains i like, but i mostly like steam trains, they look so cool!!! so i thought, lets talk about them! i made a collection of my favorite types of trains and explained a little bit about them:) I hope i sound very interesting and make someone else also interested in steam trains. Sadly enough there arent many steam train in the Netherlands anymore. so when im older ill definately move to a country where they do still use somesteam trains:) enjoy!
Personally i like the classic steam trains the most, for example the hogwarts express, but also the ones above here. I like dark greens and dark navy blue trains the best. Sadly enough i've never seen a dark navy blue one irl yet:( The trains here above are called Tender Locomotives, theses were made for long distance travel across the main lines, theses ones specifically are the British Castle Class locomotive, image 2, number 5043. And a Manor Class number 7812, image 1. Theses trains are called Tender trains, because of the little wagon right behind the main train, these little wagons are called Tenders, they store coal and water. Pretty cool huh. These days these trains are more often called vintage trains, because they aren't being used as standard anymore.
These four trains are called Tank Locomotives, these are different from Tender Locomotives, because they don't store their water in Tenders behind their trains, but instead the watertank is mounted right to the boiler. On the third image the water tank is easy to spot, It's the big upside-down U, draping over the boiler with the train name "great western" on it, this tank is called a Saddle Tank, because the tank sits as a saddle on top of the boiler. Image 2 (Stepney number 55) and 4 (the black tank locomitive) have the same type of water tank. They have Side Tanks, these sit on the sides of the boiler, they are more build into the design of the train and look like a box at the bottom of the train. Fun fact: Thomas the Tankengine is also one of these Side Tank trains! Then lastly you have image 1, this train has an inverted tank, these usually sit under the boiler and are very difficult to spot. My favorite of the three are Side Tank trains:D
The last type of steam train im gonna show y'all are Rack Locomotives, the two trains above are examples of Rack Locomotives. These trains have a special "Rack" system. At the bottom they have a special gear that hooks in the rail. These trains are used in mountains and need to climb steep rails, therefor they have this Rack system. Image 1 is a HG 4/4 locomotive, these types of locomotives are one of the largest rack system locomotives ever made. These trains also use a Side Tank like Thomas the tankengine.
Here are just a few more images of pretty trains. The first image i took myself on a camping in Zeeland, the train went right trough the camping. The train goes from Goes to Borsele and is also a Side Tank train. The second image is a classic... the hogwarts express, this is a Tender Locomotive (my favs). And lastly, to close this collection of steamtrains off, i have a pretty blue Tender train.
