Poppy Maze Runner: Diary Entry #4
Hi nerds!
When I read a book, I always read it with music. For example, I read The Hunger Games books with the Interstellar soundtrack. Every time I listen to the Interstellar soundtrack now, it reminds me of The Hunger Games. Same with the songs Waiting Room and Scott Street by Phoebe Bridgers, they remind me of Harry Potter. And really any Keane song reminds me of the book The Ocean at the End of the Lane.
This made me curious about a very important question (its the most unimportant question ever): what if I were to listen to music that totally didn’t fit the vibe of the book I was reading? Would that music still remind me of the book? Or would it just not work since the vibes are too different? I decided to test this with The Maze Runner, and I'm gonna tell you about that in a sec:D
before I tell you about that, I'll tell you a little about my life, since this is still a blog and not just a place to answer my experimental questions.
Soooo I think the last blog I posted was on Tuesday? I didn’t post a blog on Wednesday because I really didn’t do anything that day. I started reading Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson, who is one of my favorite authors. I’m on page 90 now and it’s already awesomesauce, but that is really all i did wednesday :/
Thursday was a little more interesting. It was the final day of school! We went to a park with school, but there wasn't a lot to do there so I just chilled in the grass with my friends:) it was fun. Anyway, I was tired like most of the time, but at the end of the day I also got kinda sick. When I got home I vomited a lot, so that’s why I didn't post a blog post that day. I’m feeling better now so don't worry!
Today I woke up really late, read a bit, and went to a headache clinic to work on my headache that still won't go away sadly enough:( When I came back I worked on some book cover designs since I want to rebind some of my books soon:) I want to rebind Harry Potter the most, but I think I’ll wait until autumn for that, so i have the autumn vibes yk. I'll rebind my Harry Potter books while watching the movies and drinking a cup 'o tea, how aesthetic. Right now my eye is also on rebinding The Shining by Stephen King, Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson (even though I haven’t finished it yet oop), Brief Answers to the Big Questions by Stephen Hawking or Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton.
Okay back to whether you can make any song remind you of any book.
To test this I listened to the album Being Funny in a Foreign Language by The 1975 while reading The Maze Runner. That album is a pop-rock album that leans way more to the happy pop side than to the rock side, so I thought it wouldn’t fit with The Maze Runner at all. I see The Maze Runner as a kinda dark, thrilling, more scary book that needs suspenseful music, and listening to pop would just make it feel happy.
I thought the book was kinda shitty... it was boring, repetitive, and slow. I don’t know if listening to pop music while reading changed anything about how much I liked the book, maybe I didn't like it because the music just didn't fit the vibe. But even though I didn’t like the book, listening to the album Being Funny in a Foreign Language actually does remind me of The Maze Runner now! If this completely proves that any song can remind you of any book, I don't know, I’d have to test it on more books first. But I still think it's pretty funny that a happy pop album reminds me of the maze runner lol
Then lastly I’m gonna write a few things I wanna add to the website soon, a sort of checklist if you will so i won't forget:)
• Add a bucketlist page
• Fix the blog hashtags (so clicking on them will take you to a page with all the posts using that tag)
• Add a drawing of myself on the webmaster page
Also, if y'all have any suggestions of cool things I can add to the website, please let me know:D
I think that's all for today. Sorry if my blog posts are a bit boring or short, I just don't have a lot of interesting things going on in my life at the moment T-T Tomorrow I’m going to my grandma to pick up her e-reader so I can take it to Japan so i dont have to carry all my physical books with me, so that’s fun! I'm gonna go work a bit more on the website now:)
