Diary Entry #2
Hi hi dear readers! I still don’t think I actually have many readers, since I only started this blog yesterday and nobody commented on that, so that gives me the illusion that I’m currently blogging into a beautiful, empty void. But that’s okay! Welcome back!
Today was kinda chaotic. I woke up, went to check my blog from last night. But... THE FREAKING WEBSITE WAS DOWN.
I spent the entire morning trying to find the cause. I contacted an admin at InfinityFree, my web host (spoiler alert: that provider was a terrible idea, but I’ll get to that). Turns out the server was undergoing a massive DDoS attack. Yay:) Now I can’t work on my little project.
I asked the admin if there was anything I could do, but nop. I did some research and found out that on InfinityFree, everyone shares the same domain. If one website gets attacked, every single other website under that domain goes down with it. And apparently, this happens a lot. I work on this site quite a bit (it consumes my entire day), so having it go down all the time just won't do.
The only real fix is buying a custom domain, but that costs money. While I don’t mind spending some money on a domain, I do mind my parents finding out about this website. If I use my money, they'll see the transaction and ask questions! So I’ll just have to wait 1.5 years until I’m 18 and can get my own secret bank account. (guys (and girls, or idk whatever you are idc), when I’m 18 this website is going to be fricking amazing, just you wait).
Anyway I put my website aside and went shopping with my mum. I really need shorts because I’m going to Japan in a little over a week and it is going to be hot there.
Well, I found zero shorts that I actually liked. However, I did buy two blouses. One is red and a little brown, and it is soooo aesthetic. The other is a blue one with a simple pattern. So at least my outfits will be pretty while I suffer in Japan:D
Eventually, we gave up on shorts and went to the bookstore, which is kinda like my second home atp. We ate lunch there, and o.m.g. THERE WAS SUCH A CUTE BOY. Holy moly. Let me describe him for you:
He had this thick, bushy brown hair, the cutest little face with big red cheeks. Plus, he was wearing the most aesthetic clothes. He was exactly my type (and he looked kinda like a gay twink ngl, so maybe i'd had a change). I couldn’t stare too much because my mum was sitting right across from me, but I still enjoyed the occasional peek. And he was buying so many bookssssss! He would have been the perfect boyfriend, I’m sure.
I always wonder in moments like that if I should just say something. Ask for his number? But first of all, my mother was right there (not that I’d have the courage if she wasn't there tho), and second of all, I don't want to look like a weird creep. T-T
When i came home it was time to fix my website ofc. My solution? Moving back to Neocities (yay). Let me explain why this was a big deal:
When I first started, my site was on Neocities. It’s a wonderful place for the indie web where thousands of people build their own little personal websites like mine. The problem is that Neocities only hosts static websites. A static site is basically just an unchangeable page. It doesn't have a database behind it to save new information. So, if you want a comment section, you can't have one because the website has nowhere to store what people type.
To get a database, you need PHP, which is why I went to InfinityFree. I wanted you guys to be able to interact with me cuz then i wont feel alone:D But since InfinityFree is constantly under attack I had to go back.
I spent the rest of my day manually converting all my hours and hours worth PHP files back into normal HTML files and moving everything back to Neocities. What about the comments? Well, I came up with a very smart solution if i may say so myself. I took a free chat widget (which is kinda like a tiny external website that does save data, put inside my website) and put it under every single blog post, drawing, and photo gallery. I gave each one a different ID so every post gets its own unique comment section YAYY:D I just hope there isn't a limit to how many widgets I can create, but for now, everythings working PERFECTLY. Neocities isn't sketchy, so the site is perfectly safe.
I know this was a super technical blog post with a lot of coding talk, but thank you for listening to my yap session. Don’t worry, when I go to Japan in a little over a week, my life will get a lot more interesting (i hope). And when I get back, school starts two weeks later, so my diary entries will probably be filled with depressed me.
Tomorrow I have to visit the orthodontist for a quick checkup since I got my braces off a few months ago. Not looking forward to it but hopefully it wont take very long.
Time to wrap this diary entry up. Thanks for reading!
Luuk... out! (For today, anyway.)
